Black Mountain hemp batt insulation is manufactured from a blend of hemp and other natural fibre, incorporating a binder to ensure the product retains its thickness. This thermal insulation acts as a natural moisture buffer which helps to regulate condensation levels without causing any deterioration to thermal efficiency. This reduces the risk of damp and mould and also conditions timber frames by drawing out excess moisture from the wood.
This natural insulation is made from 95% hemp and 5% recycled adhesive binder. It has a thermal conductivity of 0.039W/m°k.
Hemp fibres are one of the strongest natural fibres available, the durability and moisture control properties of hemp insulation allows for a higher level of performance and longevity – retaining its insulating properties for the life of the building.
The Hemp batt fibre in this natural insulation is selected by Black Mountain and is grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides. It does not require forced irrigation in its cultivation and yields a significant tonnage of fibre per acre. 2 tonnes of CO₂ is locked into every tonne of hemp grown and harvested. More CO₂ is held by the hemp than that used by Black Mountain in the production of this green insulation for use in eco friendly homes
Hemp is not attacked by vermin or other pests.
This eco friendly insulation has exceptional insulation properties due to a combination of low thermal conductivity and high thermal mass – reducing internal temperature fluctuations and enhancing thermal comfort.
Due to the strength of the fibre, this eco friendly product has good resistance to compression and is a semi rigid structure which resists slumping and compaction making it ideal for vertical applications such as partitioning walls and roof insulation.
The product has been designed to match and surpass the Part L Building Standards with reference to Thermal, Fire, Mould Resistance and Structural performance.
