Ecomerchant, established in 1998, helped to plug the huge gap in the builder’s merchant market, where up until then, accessing information on and sourcing sustainable building materials was a real challenge. The company is completely dedicated to making sustainable building materials accessible and affordable, and carefully considers the environmental merits of every product before including them in its ranges. Backed by an experienced team of knowledgeable staff, Ecomerchant is committed to helping people build and refurbish their homes using natural and sustainable materials, making them healthier, and much more efficient.

The National Centre is the UK’s only permanent exhibition centre of its kind, educating people interested in self build and renovation, and supporting them with the products and services they require. Open all year, the Centre in Swindon provides valuable help and information to the country’s large number of self builders and home improvers.
Ecomerchant’s founder, Joe Wild, explains: “Ecomerchant promotes healthy building techniques, through the use of low environmental impact building materials. The Ecomerchant offering is designed to do just that, and covers many aspects of the construction and retrofitting process - from reclaimed bricks, natural insulations, sunpipes to solar panels and ground source heat pumps.

“Ecomerchant is unique in it’s ownership model being part of the Burdens Group which is 46% owned by a charitable trust, with profits going directly to good causes and most of the balance of shares are owned by the staff who benefit from the long term growth of the company.”

Managing Director of the National Self Build & Renovation Centre, Tim Doherty, added: “Ecomerchant is a fantastic edition to the Centre’s Trade Village, and with their unique range of products, their expertise and reputation, we are pleased to welcome them. Eco products are incredibly popular in the self build and renovation marketplace, so our visitors are going to be spoilt for choice with the new Ecomerchant exhibit.”
