SkamoWall Board (Calcium Silicate) 1,000mm x 600mm x 25mm or 50mm
An interior insulation and mould control system
SkamoWall Boards made from Calcium Silicate are a new and ground-breaking internal insulation system. The system is based on the active capillary capacity of calcium silicate which actively regulates damp and protects against mould growth.
The boards are Class A1 fire rated, non-combustible, are vapour open and extremely durable. Thermal conductivity 0.068W/m2K
Simple, quick and easy to fit.
Use SkamoWall Boards to protect and insulate in;
- Rooms with a fluctuating temperature and/or periodic heavy use.
- Humid rooms, where damp and condensation often occurs, such as bathrooms or basements
- Rooms with exterior walls
- Walls with persistent damp problems
Price is per board (please choose thickness). Each board covers 0.6m2

How SkamoWall Calcium Silicate Boards Work
SkamoWall Boards absorb moisture present in buildings by actively diffusing it through the material where it is safely and harmlessly locked away. When the relative humidity in the internal space lowers the drying surface attracts stored water from within the board to the surface which is then evaporated safely away in a controlled manner into the internal space leaving the surface dry once again.
Therefore it is important that the room is correctly ventilated usually, this is through mechanical extract or passive ventilation and/or air vents in the walls or windows
Over time, in a traditional wall build up, dampness builds up as it is held onto, or trapped within, the wall structure this penetrating damp is what causes the development of moulds and mildew.
Plus SkamoWall Boards are A1 fire classified to Class Standard (EN 13501 Based on CEN / TC 127 "Special Fire") EU Standard).
Over time, in a traditional wall build up, dampness builds up as it is held onto, or trapped within, the wall structure this penetrating damp is what causes the development of moulds and mildew.
By using SkamoWall Boards the dampness is absorbed and held harmlessly by the board to be later released by evaporation which prevents persistent damp problems and mould as a consequence.
SkamoWall Boards can be applied to a wide range of solid mineral surfaces including brick, concrete and blockwork, the boards are not suitable for application to wooden surfaces or stud work.
In the UK damp problems that are evidenced by mould growth can occur on both solid and cavity walls. The principle of capillary active insulation provided by SkamoWall Boards allows sympathetic refurbishment or remediation which resolves damp problems for good.
Insulating an internal wall in order to significantly lower U values should not be done where there is an increased risk of causing condensation within the structure. There are a number of ways internal insulation can be designed with some of the most effective using natural products which utilise their inherent diffusion open (breathable) properties, some also provide an element of capillary action to help mitigate damp build up. However SkamoWall Boards have a distinct and valuable feature in that they absorb condensed water present in the wall or from within the internal environment diffusing it through the material by active capillary action, it is the active capillary action that sets SkamoWall Boards apart offering performance way beyond most existing remediation options.
SkamoWall Boards also have the capacity to rapidly absorb moisture, a key function that helps moderate the effects that cold damp walls can have on the internal environment, improving occupant comfort, reducing heating costs and mitigating potential mould growth and structural issues.
SkamoWall Boards are a proven solution in a wide range of applications where damp can occur and where improved insulation will provide a more comfortable and healthy living space and reduced heating costs.
Applications
- Wet rooms and bathrooms
- External walls
- Communal living areas
- Basements
In contrast to other traditional solutions, these calcium silicate boards absorb damp from the indoor climate, diffusing it through (and safely storing it in) the material. When the content of damp in the material increases, capillary evaporation occurs on the external surface. SkamoWall Board’s active capillary action moves water towards the dry parts of the material forcing damp out into the room. This water will then evaporate until a state of equilibrium occurs where the surface is dry once again.
Therefore, it is important for humidity control that the room is correctly ventilated, in order for the air to be renewed. Usually, this is through adventitious ventilation, air vents in the walls and windows, or by mechanical means.
Installation
A full installation guide is available by clicking on the 'DOWNLOADS' tab.
- SkamoWall Biocide (optional)
- SkamoWall Adhesive
- SkamoWall Boards - calcium silicate board
- SkamoWall Primer
- SkamoWall Smooth Plaster
- Paint finish – vapour diffusion open ONLY
Easy installation method
Preparation
- Remove all organic material,
- Remove loose and flaking material.
- Ensure the surface to be treated is even and free of pockets or large cracks. Full contact between the board and wall is required.
- Slight unevenness can be fixed with SkamoWall Adhesive
- For greater unevenness or very rough walls treat using a cement/sand render mix.
Application
Mix and apply SkamoWall Adhesive directly onto the wall. Use 8mm notched trowel. Can also be applied to the boards.
Cut the boards as required and press firmly to the wall. Ensuring FULL contact. Stagger the joints. Leave to set for at least 6 hours (preferably overnight)
Apply SkamoWall Primer (allow to dry for 1-2 hours)
Plaster with SkamoWall Smooth Plaster (one or two coats as required - minimum depth 3mm)
If painting, always use vapour open paint.
A perfect insulated mould resistant finish
Features and Benefits

SkamoWall Biocide (optional)
SkamoWall Biocide is recommended to treat existing surface mould prior to the application of SkamoWall Adhesive. SkamoWall Biocide is also recommended as a precautionary measure in basements, confined areas, poorly ventilated spaces and areas that are considered at risk of mould even if there are no physical signs of surface growth. The area to be treated should be cleaned thoroughly ensuring the removal of organic material, efflorescence, loose or flaking substrate by physical means. Areas to be treated should not be wet to the touch. Supplied as a ready to use liquid in a 750ml trigger spray bottle.
SkamoWall Adhesive (Required)
SkamoWall Adhesive is mixed with clean water using a mixing paddle set on a moderate speed until a smooth creamy consistency is achieved. Leave to stand for 3 minutes. Apply using an 8mm notched trowel. Typically applied directly to the wall, application to the back of the board is also possible to aid fixing where the adhesive is used to help ensure full contact on rougher surfaces. Open time 2 hours approx. Full strength achieved after 6 hours.Supplied as 20 Kg dry powder in a paper sack.
SkamoWall Board - Calcium Silicate - (Required)
SkamoWall Boards are applied directly to the adhesive coated walls with staggered bonds. Before applying the SkamoWall Adhesive ensure that the first (floor level) run is level and marked. Adhere the boards directly to the wall pushing firmly into place onto the adhesive layer. Additional adhesive can be applied to the back of the board to help ensure full unbroken contact with the coated wall surface. Boards are cut using standard carpentry tools. Screw loading details are given in the tables below. Supplied as a 600 X 1000mm board 25mm or 50mm thick
SkamoWall Primer (Required)
SkamoWall Smooth Plaster (Required)
SkamoWall Plaster is used to provide a smooth continuous decorative finish which can be painted. Mix with clean water using a slow paddle mixer to achieve a smooth creamy consistency. Open time 2 hours. Use to fill and smooth all joints before a full coat is applied. Minimum coat depth is 2mm. Maximum coat depth is 10mm per coat. A second coat can be applied after two hours or when a thumbprint can just be left in the first coat. Fully dry after 6 hours. Apply using a steel plasterer’s float or trowel.
