Woodwool Technical Data

Ionic Woodwool is a building board suitable for carrying lime or clay renders and plasters. It is made from mineralised fir wood, giving a board that is breathable, rot resistant and durable.

For detailed guidance on application, please contact Ecomerchant. General guidelines for application include;

  • Fix boards in a staggered pattern.
  • Do not run boards in line with the top of window / door openings.
  • Check batten spacing / board thickness is sufficient to prevent flexing.
  • Scrims joints, or apply glass fibre reinforcement mesh throughout the undercoat.
  • Damp boards and control suction before application of plaster / render.
  • Do not allow the boards to become saturated before application of render / plaster.

Fixing tips:

  • Minimum number of fixings 6 per board
  • Use a holder plate washer for each fixing
  • Use stainless steel screws
  • Use serrated screws such as Heco-fix Plus Pozi to avoid any pre-drilling
  • Screw size 5mm diameter is standard
  • Screw length 4 x diameter needs to be embedded in the stud so on a 25mm thick board using a 5mm screw the correct size is 50mm (board 25mm + Washer 5mm + 4 x diameter 20mm = 50mm)
